It is pretty easy to
figure out why the Toronto Lady Lynx
have qualified for 'W' league play
offs, four of the past five seasons,
together with the Junior Ladies
qualifying for U17 and U20 North
American USL finals, in 2009 and
2010. Maybe it has something to do
with the quality of
their goalkeeping.... |

The Lynx organization
confirmed earlier today that
Sabrina D’Angelo and Eve
Badana have both been selected
to the U17 National team, scheduled
to depart this week for final
preparations for the U17 World Cup,
which begins on September 5th
in Trinidad and Tobago. Both girls
are following in the footsteps of
Lady Lynx #1 Justine Bernier, recently
selected for the Senior Ladies
National team training camp being
hosted in Rome, Italy, to include
an exhibition game against Germany
on September 15th in Dresden.
Justine has previously represented
Canada at both the U18 and U20 age
levels. |
|
Earlier this
summer, 15 year old Kailen Sheridan was
called into the U15 Canada Womens
training camp in Sunrise, Florida,
together with an invitation to
the "National All Star" tournament.
This following an outstanding season with
the Lady Lynx Juniors
alongside U16 Michelle Denley and
under the watchful eye of Lynx
goalkeeper coach Glenn McNamara. |
|
"These selections
reflect the tremendous strides being
made at the Toronto Lady Lynx"
commented Lady Lynx Head Coach Danny
Stewart.
"During my five
years
as Head Coach of the
Lady Lynx,
I have been very
fortunate to
have consistency in
my goalkeeping position. Justine
reported back early to the
University of Alabama this year
(July 5th). |
|
I had monitored Sabrina D'Angelo at
the NTC for
two years and did not hesitate in
inviting her to take over for Justine
for our remaining 2010 Lady Lynx
season.
Sabrina stepped in
and played with great confidence,
helping us to reach the playoffs,
where eventual
champions Buffalo, defeated us in
the final round.
Eve, Kailen and
Michelle provide a solid foundation
for the future and we are all very
proud of their ongoing recognition." |
|
"Our continued success
in the United Soccer Leagues,
together with the number of Soccer
scholarships being awarded to our
Junior Ladies is very encouraging
for the entire program," stated
Academy Director Duncan Wilde,
"National team selection for our
players is always absolutely fantastic news
and we wish them all every success
over the next few weeks on National
team duty". |

The Lynx
organization are continuing to
offer open tryouts and full
details, together with the application process is clearly
